Neben Aspekten der Kompositions-, Sozial- und Institutionengeschichte sowie detaillierten Erörterungen zum allgemeinen Gattungsdiskurse zwischen 1830 und 1870 werden auch Fragen behandelt, welche die Musik- und Gattungsgeschichtsschreibung als solche betreffen.The history of the string quartet as a musical genre between 1830 and 1870 is the focus of this book. Using the musical developments throughout Europe as a framework, the history of string quartet composition as well as aspects of the concurrent social history are explored. Also included are a detailed analysis and discussion of the general discourse concerning musical genres during this time period. Further discussions clarify issues of music historiography and the historiography of musical genres

    Music Iconography: What is it all about? Some remarks and considerations with a selected Bibliography

    A glance at the output of music iconography research of the last twenty years reveals an obvious topical plurality that can easily be misunderstood as a kind of eclecticism. That is why music iconography research still appears – metaphorically speaking – more like a construction site than a garden in the style of André Le Nôtre. The topical and methodological plurality of music iconography is, however, the result of the development of music iconography as a research field and its specific dependence on an interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary and/or multidisciplinary discourse to generate useful scholarly knowledge.     Le riflessioni che vengono presentate in questo contributo, vogliono essere l’avvio di un percorso, con intenzione costruttiva, di discussione e di definizione di alcune modalità operative e di alcuneindicazioni metodologiche nel settore della ricerca empirica in campo educativo. Le domande alle quali occorre dare risposte sono le seguenti: Quali differenze intendiamo stabilire tra metodo eitinerario? Che cosa intendiamo dire con le espressioni “metodologia della ricerca” o “sapere metodologico”? La realtà educativa è dinamica, complessa, imprevedibile; quindi, la ricerca in l’educazione ha come funzione quella di produrre conoscenze che, in un tempo e in uno spazio variabili, permettano di trovare soluzioni ai problemi che si pongono. Non si tratta tanto di fornire ragguagli sui modelli teorici o metodologici, ma di chiamare a raccolta questi ultimi, di rielaborarli per chiarire i problemi e trovarne le soluzioni
